Elevators can be intimidating enough to some people to make them take the stairs. I for one will always choose stairs or escalators over elevators. Elevators are scary enough without bizarre events taking place within them. In this gallery, you'll read about some of the most bizarre situations that were caught on elevator cameras, which may make you think twice about not taking the stairs. 

Creepy man with a White Rag

Do you know those fancy hotels where you get an elevator operator? Well, perhaps only if you’re into the fancy, luxurious and expensive hotels of course. But you get the picture. Well, this one elevator attendant is not what you’d expect.

In this footage, the elevator passengers are not at all greeted by the kind and modest elevator attendant, but rather a man with no face per se. A creepy man with a white rag covering his face. If he’s the first thing you see as you hop in an elevator, run, if you can. 

You spray, you clean

Oh, the wonders and trouble two girlfriends can get into when feeling rebellious. In this footage, two friends got in an elevator and began spray painting the walls. Their paintings were mostly hearts, so this most likely showed that they didn’t mean to leave anything offensive.

But painting the elevator walls is still prohibited, nonetheless. One of the girls saw the security camera and stopped her friend from continuing. It didn’t take long for an officer to approach them and ask them to clean up their mischief. 

Officer gets groovy in the elevator

If you’ve ever wondered whether officers have fun or have a life at all, you might be surprised that they do, and there is proof. Footage of Deputy Murphy dancing in the elevator was probably the talk of the year. In this footage, you can see him grooving. He was in a really good mood, let’s just say that. Whatever the reason, he was enjoying the moment and didn’t mind who was watching.

Two other officers hopped on the elevator and Murphy didn’t even stop. His energy was so contagious that his officer buddies got their moves in as well. They most likely knew there was a camera, but at the moment, they didn’t seem to mind one bit. What other way than dance is there to release some heavy strain huh? 

Always check what’s in or isn’t in your pizza box before you pay

Have you ever ordered a pizza and realized it had very little toppings on it? It is more than likely the delivery man ate some of your pizza’s toppings. It’s happened and it has been recorded. On his way to deliver a client’s pizza order, a domino’s pizza delivery man was caught on the security camera snatching off some toppings in the elevator.

While this may be absolutely bizarre, don’t underestimate the hunger of a human being. Yes, the delivery man is meant to deliver your pizza exactly as it was prepared, but not everyone follows orders. So, before you pay, do not forget to check what’s in your pizza box, or what’s missing. 

Cops make some elevator beats

It all started with two cops, and soon a whole group of them were making some beats in the elevator. The footage showed the cops using their uniforms, the elevator walls, and floors to create the beats and others dancing to the rhythm orchestrated.

Think about officers going to the office or field every single day to deal with irresponsible human beings, crimes, and so on. It would be even more deadly and inhumane (might I add) if there was no fun involved. Plus, it helped dissolve the “awkward elevator silence.” 

A romantic exchange

In this one footage, a couple gets on the elevator and cameras show them glancing at one another. The female is the one that makes it more obvious. They seem like a couple, but no physical affection is shown until the other elevator passengers get off.

When the guy approaches the woman to kiss her, she places a note in his hand and leaves him hanging, mysterious and romantic. No one will ever know what happened, whether they were a couple or whether they had just met. Leave it to your imagination. 

Dogs first please

This is not the only time it's happened, so beware it can occur at any given moment. In this footage, a woman walked into the elevator with her pup. With a long leash, the dog didn't get in soon enough before the elevator’s doors closed. The pup was still on the leash when the elevator doors shut.

Thankfully, in this scenario, there was a man in plain sight and he reacted quickly. The man rushed to get the dog off the leash as the dog was being pulled upwards by the elevator. The man was able to get him off the leash and the pup did not get hurt. Next time consider letting your pups go first. 

A Slimy Slide

Another prank here. Picture yourself stepping into an elevator and being swallowed whole by a deep black slimy hole. Yup, not ideal. The Japanese media orchestrated this prank to have some fun. As soon as a person stepped into the elevator, they would fall right through the floor and get covered by slime. This slime was to help the person slide their way to a soft landing.

If they landed on either side of the slide, some black ink was waiting for them. These people were covered by slime from head to toe that they wouldn’t even be able to get back up or turn a doorknob. It was that slimy. I wouldn’t even like to know what that slime was made out of! 

Time of the month on the elevator? 

What if you couldn’t move due to excruciating belly pain? It seems that is what was happening in this footage. Here, a couple is alone on the elevator. When they arrive at their designated floor, the woman seems to want the guy to leave, trying to gently push him out of the elevator.

The man stands his ground and lifts her up very carefully to take her with him. The elevator doors close. A few minutes later, the same woman gets back on the elevator struggling to walk upright. It could’ve been the time of the month or even food poisoning. But she certainly preferred being alone. 

Almost 2 days stuck in the elevator

The story goes like this: on a Friday night, the man was working late when he decided to go for a smoke. He hopped on the elevator and soon realized it had gotten stuck. He pressed the alarm, but no one came to his aid. He only had a pack of cigarettes and a pack of Rolaids which didn’t help his hunger or dehydration. At one point, he was able to get the elevator doors open for a few seconds.

It took another day for him to get any sign of help. On Sunday afternoon, there was finally someone on the voice intercom who responded to the man. Perhaps best to be a little more cautious taking the elevators on Friday nights. 

Playing with gum

Sometimes you drop a potato chip or any food, pick it back up and eat it like it was no big deal. The three to five-second rule, right? You can definitely pull it off if you’re confident. On the other hand, it is just plain nasty and embarrassing. In this footage, the man spits his gum as far as he can to reach one side of the elevator, but the gum falls straight to the ground.

The elevator doors slide open and he checks if anyone was making their way over before picking the gum to throw it back in his mouth. He then realized the security camera and instantly reacted in embarrassment. Certainly, he hasn’t been the only one with the uncanny idea to play with gum on an elevator. 

A woman goes full karate mode

As a woman, imagine having to always be looking over your shoulder for male predators, even on elevators. Well, in this footage, a woman gets on an elevator with a stranger (male). She keeps to herself. The man begins to act strange.

His first attempt to get close to the woman was a slight warning because she simply moved aside. His second attempt got him in big trouble. He put his arm around the woman and she instantaneously smacked him across the face followed by a leg kick. She was more than likely trained for immature men like this one. 

She’s had enough

In this footage, a woman gets on the elevator, followed by a man who is too hyped by the music he’s got playing on his headphones. There’s no issue with his dancing until he starts preventing the elevator doors from closing.

With his moves intentionally activating the motion sensors, the elevator doors would open back up. This woman was not having it. About his third mischievous attempt, the woman smacks him on the head and screams who knows what. But she sure put him in his place. 

Personal space

Imagine getting on an elevator with someone that doesn’t respect personal space. It would be quite triggering, wouldn’t you say? In this footage, two girls get on the elevator. One of them begins stretching to the point of almost hitting the other girl with her foot.

But the girl remains quiet. Perhaps she didn’t know how to stand up for herself. Maybe she thought that her unspoken reaction would let the stretching-girl know how uncomfortable she was. Or maybe she thought “only a few more seconds and I’ll be off this thing.” 

Breaking it down

Another dance footage. In this footage, a guy enters the police department’s elevator with his headphones on and starts to groove. When the elevator doors shut, he starts his free-styling routine.

He continues dancing even after he lands at his designated floor and makes quite the exit with the famous moonwalk. The California police department shared the footage on their social media. While most camera footage is on heavier cases, this one sure brightened the day at the office. 

Stealing customer’s food

More footage where a delivery man is unable to resist his customer’s food. A Chinese delivery man gets on the elevator. As soon as the doors close, before diving in, he first checks if there are any cameras in sight. As soon as he doesn’t see any cameras, the man gets one plastic container out of the bag.

He has a taste of the first container. He then pulls out a soup container and takes a sip out of that. The delivery man quickly puts the containers back in the bag before the elevator doors open. So now you know it can happen with any food order. Not just pizza.

Glass shatters

In this footage, a work plan goes wrong. A few workers were trying to get a large piece of glass in the elevator. One guy was meant to be holding the elevator doors open, while the other two were to work their way into the elevator with the glass. But the piece of glass was too large. They most likely did not measure the piece of glass nor the elevator.

The guy who was meant to hold the elevator doors removed his hand from the elevator’s motion sensor for a moment and all went downhill from here. The elevator doors closed and as they descended to a lower floor, the glass was pulled upwards and shattered in the elevator. Next time, if there even is a next time, save yourself some trouble and measure both the glass and the elevator. 

A boy’s umbrella does not do justice 

A little boy was waiting for his dad in the elevator. Boy, if he knew his dad was going to take longer than a minute, he might have just waited for him outside the elevator. Impatient enough, the little boy tried another way to hold the elevator doors open with his umbrella. However, the umbrella was not picked up by the elevator’s sensors, and the doors shut.

The umbrella was pulled upwards as the boy descended. The boy tried to get the elevator doors open with his hands, but he remained stuck for a couple of hours until a rescue team arrived and got him out safely. 

Troopers dance

If you’ve seen or read about Star Wars, you might find this funny. If not, you might still find this humorous. This footage was most likely a staged prank. A single man was on the elevator on a business call (or so it seemed), when a man dressed as Darth Vader hops in.

The single man started getting a bit frightened that he slowly pressed another elevator button to get out even faster. On the next elevator stop, a full team of Star War troopers joined Darth Vader and commenced a dance sesh. The man was entirely shocked, he didn’t even try to get out. 

Love at first sight

Have you ever locked eyes with someone and instantly felt a connection that surpassed time and “reason”? Well, this is exactly what happened in this scenario. As soon as these two got on an elevator and acknowledged one another, they felt the instant attraction. They kept glancing flirtatiously back at one another.

The next thing you know, they exchanged a passionate kiss and when the elevator doors opened, they both got off on the same floor. No one will ever know what happened to the lovebirds who met on the elevator but let's hope it has a happy ending. 

Blissful much?

Wouldn’t we all like some of the blissful magic this woman’s got? I believe so. In this footage, a curly-haired woman gets on the elevator. She can’t help but widen her grin and express her joy for who knows what. Having the elevator to herself, she began full-on jumping, smiling, laughing, and swinging in victory.

Fist pumps to the skies and all. Maybe she just won the lottery, got a job promotion, met the love of her life, maybe she’s practicing for an audition or she’s just excited to be alive. We will never know what caused her uncanny behavior, but it sure is contagious. 

Sub Zero Elevator Prank

In this footage, a staged prank with a man dressed as Sub-Zero and an automated voice with the phrase “finish her/him” gets a scare out of people for sure. The Sub-Zero man would be waiting in the elevator for a passenger to get on. Many would oddly glance at the man, not expecting him to cause any harm.

But as soon as the elevator doors shut, he’d start throwing fists and kicks in the air that got people into fight or flight mode. The only thing these people could do was scream their guts out or start throwing some fists themselves. If you ever find a man dressed as Sub Zero, just save yourself some trouble and wait for the next elevator (if any) instead or take the stairs. 

A staged falling elevator

There are those who scare people for a living, and this man is one of those. This footage is staged thankfully, so no need to worry. Various people were made to believe that there was some electrical failure, a crash, and a power cut within the elevator. Reactions varied amongst the people that were pranked.

Some appeared to be extremely scared, while others had very little expression or none at all. Call that “shock.” I mean, can you imagine being on an elevator and thinking “this is it?” Maybe not, and it's better that way. After the prank, all these people were “rewarded” for their participation with some claps, drinks, and laughter. 

Make out on the elevator

This one footage is part of a prank set up by a YouTube Channel for their subscribers. Two actors go on an elevator where they start making out to the point of making others feel like they’re the third wheel. You might have squirmed by just watching the video. Imagine what it was like for those on the same ride.

Not the very best prank but these guys did make it as candid as possible by getting multiple footages and a clear view of people’s reactions. While the bystanders could’ve kindly asked for them to stop, no one did. Instead, they remained quiet and tried to ignore the noise as much as possible. 

Give me your watermelon!

If you’re absolutely mad at someone and wanting to smack them with something other than your bare hands, you might just find a watermelon to be your new best prop. That is of course if you have a watermelon in sight. Well, this is what happened in this footage. This footage shows a young man devouring one half of his watermelon with a spoon.

When the elevator makes a stop on one floor, a woman with her back to the elevator seems to be arguing with her partner. She turns around and notices the watermelon on the young passenger’s hand. She immediately grabs it and throws it at her boyfriend. She then takes a last glance at the young man before the doors close. This young man was only left with the last spoonful of his watermelon. 

Too close

How close would you consider to be “too close” in terms of personal space? It would seem that it would be different with each individual, but it appears that the majority of society has the same view on a reasonable space between two strangers. In this scenario, a news anchorwoman goes around testing people’s limits.

Results showed that in confined spaces like in the elevator, people would be a lot more protective over their personal space. Whereas in the park, people were a lot more open to someone sitting near them even if there were plenty of other empty seats. 

The awkward man on the elevator 

This one footage is of a guy who spends his time on the elevator making people uncomfortable. Imagine a kid being scolded and told to stare at the wall. Yeah, sort of like that. He faces the wall for seconds, making an older man worrisome for his behavior. This isn’t the entire footage by the way.

He also hugs an older gentleman, tries to hold the hand of a girl, stares directly into the eyes of another guy, gets into people’s personal space, and remains silent for most of it. This is awkward alright, but it was all staged for a YouTube Channel. 

Kid proposes to the love of his youthful life 

Oh, the innocence of a kid. In this footage, a group of kids are on their way home from school. A little boy is holding the elevator for his friends. Two girls and another boy hop in. When the door closes, this second boy starts pecking the girl’s cheeks and hugging her. He then gets down on his knee and proposes to her.

The girl seemed a bit embarrassed and shy more than anything. The first boy who was holding the elevator doors open starts laughing and pointing to the camera. But there was no shame or guilt for the little boy who’d fallen in love. 

A hammer does come in handy when in an elevator 

Not everyone who has gotten stuck in an elevator is lucky enough to get stuck with any efficient tools such as a hammer. However, in this scenario, they were lucky. Eleven people had gotten stuck in the elevator for two hours. When the elevator doors did open on the basement floor, they found a brick wall standing in their way.

But one brave enough man punched a hole through the wall and slipped his way through it to escape. Help did arrive a few minutes after. The elevator was moved to another floor so the rest of the people could evacuate. Well, not that you should carry a hammer every time you go on an elevator but hey, it helped these guys. 

When one doesn’t like being watched 

Of course, there are those who enjoy the spotlight and don't mind being followed and tracked 24/7. But there are those private people who do not like even a minute of being watched. In this case, when a red-haired woman got in the elevator and recognized the somewhat hidden camera, she stared straight into the lens for a few seconds before she decided she was not having it.

The woman then took the piece of gum she had in her mouth and stuck it right on the camera lens. Next time remember that a piece of gum might come in quite handy. Even if you don’t chew any. 

A kitty loves a ride

Who said only humans could enjoy an elevator ride? In this scenario, there is a one-eyed kitty in China who would get up every morning to enjoy her elevator trips within the complex. Her owner would open the front door for the cat to go on her daily wandering/exploration.

People would treat her like any other neighbor. She would enter and exit the elevator and visit other people’s homes. Those familiar with her daily routine, would make sure she’d get on and off the elevator safely. 

A ride with a beekeeper

Most people like honey for their morning toast, teas, or the like, but most are unable to stand the sight of a bee nearby. Imagine an elevator ride with three boxes full of bees and no way out. One might even rethink their love for honey. In this one elevator ride, a beekeeper rides with three boxes full of bees.

It seems this one elevator ride was a prank to see people’s reactions. The guy with the blue shirt was likely ranked the most humorous. However, it does appear he may have had a true bee phobia. If that were to be the case, then his reactions may not have been that laughable. 

Robbers prank

Pranks are humorous, but you might reconsider if you were the one being pranked on. In this scenario, the man in a business suit had gotten on the elevator alone. As soon as the doors slid open, he attempted to make his way out when a swarm of masked men hurried into the elevator. It looks like he had no room to move.

No one would be able to move in a situation like that anyway. You might just be forced to follow their orders until they let you go. This prank was planned by the man’s best friend to give him a scare. 

A moment alone to dance

In this footage, as soon as the woman gets on the elevator, she begins twerking, shaking, and dancing away. You know, when you’ve got to dance, you’ve got to dance, and in this case, the woman probably took the elevator specifically to do just that.

When the doors slid open, she nonchalantly walked away. This happened at the FSU Basketball Facility according to the footage’s label, so it’s most likely she needed a moment to herself. Although of course, she wasn’t entirely alone. 

When the beat drops, ones got to dance 

You may wonder what’s with the dancing on elevators. It could be the confined space and sensation of being “alone” in your room like no one is watching, although there are actually many people watching. Another woman is enveloped by the music she’s listening to through her earphones. In this footage, she begins dancing as soon as the doors close.

She lifts her bum, tongue out, uses the elevator’s handle as a prop, and even gets down on some lunges. Her confidence is off the roof. That is of course until the elevator doors open. She quickly pulls herself together and walks out like nothing ever happened. 

High heels and elevators don’t go hand in hand

Can you imagine feeling so confident, standing tall, high and mighty, when all of a sudden you take a step out of the elevator so gracefully, and it ends up in bruises? That is exactly what happened to this woman, unfortunately.

As she was stepping out of the elevator, her high-heel shoe got trapped in the elevator’s gap and sent her straight to the ground. Ouch. In shock and in pain, she crawls to get her shoe before the elevator doors closed. She struggles to get up with hurt knees. Hopefully, she doesn’t let this scenario stop her from wearing her high-heels and power suit to the office again. 

No thank you, I’ll take the stairs

Who knows what these pranksters wanted out of the people; laughter, anger, amusement? This woman wasn’t having it. In this footage, a woman was waiting to take the elevator. When the doors slid open, she found a group of disco enthusiasts dancing to some music and a mirror ball hanging from the elevator ceiling.

She did show a smirk but slowly made her way to the stairs. Way to go guys. Of course, not everyone would have reacted as this woman did. Perhaps she was already not having a good day and couldn’t be snapped out of it even with a mobile disco. 

Awkward silence

In this footage, an older gentleman and a young gentleman are in the elevator together. Complete silence until the younger lad begins moving robotically. He starts punching his own bag and creating some weird gestures. Imagine a little kid throwing a tantrum. Kind of like that.

The older man asked him if he was okay, but the younger man continued with his weird silly tantrum. The older man didn’t know what to do but he did seem worried and perhaps a little bit disappointed in the younger man’s immature behavior. 

A training room

Apparently, an elevator serves multiple purposes. In this case, security footage shows a woman stretching and exercising for who knows what. Why would someone be training in the elevator? Someone who does not want to waste a second, that’s who.

If you come to think of it this way, depending on the size of the building, an elevator usually takes a few seconds or up to a minute to reach another floor. Well, this person valued time and took advantage of riding solo on the elevator. You can see her stretching side to side and lifting her leg to the top of her head. 

A ghostly girl

Maybe you believe in ghosts, and maybe you don’t. Either way, you are more than likely to have gotten scared in this prank. This footage is of a staged prank where a little girl is dressed as a ghost with a white dress, white makeup to make her look pale, and a little doll by her side. When the passenger gets on the elevator, within a few seconds, the elevator lights go out. The little girl (ghost) then enters the elevator through a secret door.

When the lights turn back on, the girl remains silent as she glances at the passenger. This passenger, terrified, starts shuffling to open the elevator doors as soon as possible. When the little girl screams, the woman screams even louder. Then the lights go out and the little girl disappears. Scary stuff. 

Watch where you’re going

This woman is not even in the elevator yet and she’s already tripping. If you have a phone, then you are more than likely to have bumped into some wall, missed a step, or even hit your head at the elevator’s door as this woman did. In this footage, this gal is making her way to the elevator without watching her step.

She of course knows her destination by heart, but she’s forgotten the elevator works by sensors and timing. She’s appalled by whatever’s on her screen that she doesn't realize the elevator doors closing as she attempts to step her way through. She bumps her head and she’s snapped out of her screen, finally. 

A woman stuck in the elevator

Men and kids have been stuck in the elevator, but this woman appears to have reacted with even more emotions than a kid or man in similar scenarios. But then again, who can blame her? Can you imagine your oxygen being limited, needing to go to the restroom or even women’s hormones? In this footage, you can actually feel her frustration and discomfort.

She even punches through the elevator door and tries to open it. But she only made a slight gap. It seems that the intercom did work, and help did arrive within a few hours. Thankfully she carried water with her, and it wasn’t a Friday night like the other guy. 

A mental breakdown

While this may be creepy, this woman was probably on some hallucinogen or plain out running from something or someone. In this footage, the woman is caught pressing some elevator buttons and keeping the doors from closing. She continues checking the hallway to see if anyone was approaching.

She steps out of the elevator and jumps back in but once again keeps the elevator’s doors open. The way she handles herself in this video is surely not perceived as “normal.” She steps off the elevator and this time she lets the doors close. She could’ve been tired, drunk, or momentarily delusional. This woman was later found dead on the hotel rooftop. 

A man sets an elevator on fire by accident 

In this footage, a man from the 16th floor at an apartment complex in Russia hops on the elevator with a cup of ethanol and a cigarette. If things couldn’t get any worse. The man’s lack of common sense leads him to light a cigarette lighter inside the elevator. This causes the elevator to light on fire.

The man tried to put out the fire as he was crawling his way out of the elevator when he arrived on the first floor. He lived but burnt 30% of his body. Next time, be patient. Your smoke can wait a few seconds and your body might thank you. 

A man grooms his girlfriend

Think of a monkey grooming one of his kind; mother to a sibling, or sibling to sibling. Now, that may be a bit weird for us humans but that is sort of what occurs in this footage. As this couple waits to arrive at their designated floor, the boyfriend starts eating his girlfriend’s hair.

Or eating what’s in her hair. Which is maybe even grosser to think about. Maybe he wasn’t eating it, but rather tasting her hair. At this point, who knows. It can go in multiple ways, but let’s just call this a grooming scenario. 

An elevator is art

Shia LaBeouf is known for his great movie roles and participation in independent films and art projects. In this scenario, Shia had joint forces with friend and artist Lake Turner and Nastja Sade Ronkko, to carry forth their then-latest art project called ELEVATE.

In this footage, they spend 24 hours on the elevator, welcoming people to start some candid conversations. The entire footage was streamed live for the whole world to see and be part of. Can you imagine being part of Shia LaBeouf’s latest exhibition, installation, or performance? There will most likely be more to come. 

Saved by an invisible force

Have you ever experienced a moment of pure grace, where everything could’ve gone wrong, but you were saved by a slight touch, a last-minute call, or the right-timing miracles? In this footage, a girl was enjoying her solo ride on the elevator.

She started dancing and jumping around the elevator. As soon as she hopped off the elevator, a large chunk of the elevator ceiling fell to the ground. If she were to have been standing a second more in the elevator, she would’ve been crushed. This is what would be called being saved by an invisible force! 

Baby’s day out it is

If you haven’t seen the movie “Baby’s Day Out,” watch it, and you’ll see what I mean. But in this scenario, a baby is left on the elevator by his three-year-old sibling. The baby didn’t seem to mind the 17-floor ride down, thankfully. Or else, the situation might have taken a different twist.

Because as you may or may not know, there have been similar cases that end with unexpected accidents. These incidents may start with humor and end with tears and remorse. Watch your kiddos closely mothers and fathers. 

A man sings his way into women’s hearts... or tries to at least. 

A man sets himself up and others for some laughter. Who wouldn’t want that? In this footage, this man starts singing to one of the passengers a Chris Brown song. He then sings to older women on the next elevator trip while busting some moves. But all that these women can do is laugh at his silly attempts.

Apart from the singing and romanticizing, the man also performs some stunts pretending to be Spiderman, or somewhat. By the way, this was all a prank, but this one set up did get the elevator passengers laughing for real. 

The elevator floor is shattered

Like any other pranks, this prank was to cause humor and witness people’s reactions. In this footage, the elevator floor appears to fall piece by piece. With an automatic sound insinuating the metallic material breaking, people did get scared but only for a second.

After they realized they hadn’t fallen and it was just a visual effect with transparent glass, the elevator passengers shared a laugh. However, there were some individuals that did not find it funny whatsoever and left the elevator furious.
